An evening of spoken-word performances aboard the Dunbrody - storytelling, poetry, song… -  by Wexford artists Joe Brennan, Suzanne Walsh and Ben Mac Caoilte. Joe is a storyteller who has shared his tales with audiences of all ages throughout Ireland; Suzanne is a performance artists who works with text and music inspired by nature and animal world; Ben is a poet, musician and performance artist who creates work in both Irish and English language.

In early August, we navigate down the Barrow as far as New Ross, Co. Wexford. Come and see the Mayfly quayside and join us Saturday 5th on THE DUNBRODY for an evening of music, poetry and performance by Wexford artists Joe Brennan, Suzanne Walsh and Ben Mac Caoilte.

MEET THE INVERTEBRATES - Eco Showboat resident marine biologist Rachel O'Malley shows you some of the little creatures that live in our waterways and talks to you about endangered species, invasive species and other problems facing fresh water environments.

Meet Anne & Denis who talk about their two year solar journey on the island’s waterways, show you their studies and observations of nature and tell of their encounters with artists, activists and scientists who explore with them the problems and promises of the freshwater environment.

Ben MacCaoilte is a bilingual poet writing and performing in both Irish and English. Ben has released two performance poetry albums on the Crannóg Media label, Beyond the Apple Tree in 2021 and Lifting the Gate in 2022. Ben is currently touring his poetry performance installation Lifting the Gate, which premiered at Smock Alley Theatre in 2023, and takes it to the Cultural Centre Irlandais in Paris this June 2023.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience

Joe Brennan is a storyteller and writer from Wexford. He tells traditional folk tales, myths and legends along with original stories. He has told stories across Ireland, in Europe, India, USA, Russia and Africa. He has featured in many storytelling and arts festivals including The Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival. He is the author of Donegal Folk Tales.

Suzanne Walsh is an artist and writer working with performance, audio, and text. They have an interest in non-human worlds, and in creating rifts through which new meanings and realities can emerge. They also publish essays, art-writing, poetry and fiction in publications including gorse journal, Fallowmedia, and Winter Papers.
